Epiphany is celebrated annually on January 6th. As a rule, Three Kings' Day is celebrated on the night of January 5th to 6th, that is, on the eve of Three Kings' Day.

This day is also known as the Feast of the Epiphany.

Traditions of Epiphany

This Catholic celebration is associated with the Christmas tradition, which says that three wise men from the East visited the Baby Jesus on the night of January 5th to 6th, after being guided by a star.

The three wise men were named Melchior, Balthazar, and Gaspar, and they brought gifts for the Baby Jesus: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Tradition dictates that on this day the family gathers again to celebrate the end of the Christmas festivities.

The foods served on Epiphany (Twelfth Night) include: cod with boiled potatoes, King Cake, sponge cake, French toast, sonhos (a type of fried dough), among other Christmas delicacies.

It is also the day when the "Janeiras" are sung, which begins after Christmas and extends until Epiphany.

The day after Epiphany, families begin to take down the Christmas decorations that adorn their homes during the Christmas season.
